The house was too quiet. The silence was pressing in on Amelia. She stared out the window, the rain blurring the familiar landscape. She couldn't shake the sensation of something being deeply wrong. She found it in the glove compartment of his car, tucked under a map.

It was a small, tattered notebook. She opened it, her hands unsteady. "Learn to sail." He hated the water.

She read on. “Write a screenplay.” “Start a charity.” She felt a cold wave wash over her. It was a list of ambitions he’d never voiced. It was a foreign language.

The sound of the car pulling into the driveway made her jump. She slammed the notebook shut and threw it back in the glove compartment. Her breath caught in her throat.
